Skarbo โ Receipts & Spending ยท Last updated: 30 July 2026
Skarbo helps you scan paper receipts and understand your spending. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it goes, and the choices you have. We built Skarbo to keep your financial data private by default.
Skarbo ("Skarbo", "the app", "we", "us") is an iOS application developed and operated by the individual developer of Skarbo. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at cooperation.aiapp@gmail.com.
When you scan a receipt, the app captures a photo and sends that image to an AI service (see Section 4) to extract details such as the store name, date, total, individual items, and category. The extracted receipt data is then saved locally on your device.
You can import statement files (CSV / XLSX). These files are parsed on your device. When AI assistance is used for categorization, only transaction descriptions and amounts are sent โ the app removes card numbers, account numbers and IBANs before anything leaves your device. Statement files themselves are not uploaded.
When you ask the app a question about your spending, a summary of the relevant figures is sent to the AI service to generate an answer. When you create a custom category, only the category name is sent so the app can suggest a matching emoji.
The app uses Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics) to collect anonymous usage statistics and crash reports. This helps us understand how features are used and fix problems. This data concerns app behaviour and device diagnostics โ it is not your receipt content.
Premium subscriptions are processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat. When you subscribe, Apple handles the payment; RevenueCat receives subscription status tied to an anonymous identifier. We never receive or store your card details โ those stay with Apple.
Receipt reading and spending answers are powered by Anthropic's Claude AI. To keep the AI key secure, requests pass through our infrastructure provider Cloudflare, which forwards them to Anthropic. The data sent is used solely to process your request (reading a receipt or answering a question) and, under Anthropic's API terms for commercial use, is not used to train AI models. We recommend reviewing Anthropic's Privacy Policy for details on their handling.
Your receipts, imported transactions, categories and budgets are stored locally in the app's storage on your device. The app does not currently sync this financial data to any cloud service. Because the data lives on your device, keeping your device secure (passcode, backups) is an important part of protecting it. If you back up your device to iCloud or your computer, the app's local data may be included in that backup, under Apple's terms.
| Service | Purpose | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic (Claude AI) | Read receipts, answer spending questions | Receipt images; transaction descriptions/amounts; spending summaries; category names |
| Cloudflare | Secure request routing to the AI | The above requests pass through in transit |
| Google Firebase | Analytics & crash reporting | Anonymous usage events, crash diagnostics, device info |
| Apple | Subscription payments | Purchase & billing (handled entirely by Apple) |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management | Subscription status tied to an anonymous ID |
| National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) | Currency exchange rates | Rate requests only โ no personal or financial data |
We minimise what leaves your device. In particular, sensitive identifiers in imported statements (card numbers, account numbers, IBANs) are stripped out before any data is sent for AI processing. Data in transit is protected by encryption (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we design the app to limit exposure of your financial information.
Because your financial data is stored on your device, you are in control of it:
Diagnostic data collected by Firebase is retained according to Google's standard retention periods. To manage a subscription, use your Apple ID subscription settings.
Skarbo is a personal-finance tool intended for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under the age required by your local law (for example, 13 in the U.S. or 16 in parts of the EU).
Skarbo is available in many countries. Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Because your financial data is stored on your device and largely controlled by you directly, you can exercise most of these rights within the app itself. For anything else, or to make a request, contact us at cooperation.aiapp@gmail.com.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
